THE 39 CLUES
The Lucian Branch is one of the fiveCahill branches. Lucians are experts at secrecy, sabotage, poison weapons, leadership, and lying.
CREST
The Lucian crest has changed over the years, but the central image has stayed the same; a double-headed snake. The Lucian Crest (pictured to the left), is a red shield. On top of the red field is a white, double-headed snake (one head on either side of the snake) coiled in a special pattern around a medieval-looking sword. Both heads of the snake are bared and show fangs and a slithery tongue. As with all of the Cahill family crests, there is a scroll at the bottom of the crest that reads "LUCIAN". The simpler Lucian crest (shown to the right) consists of the same shield pattern, losing the scroll, and the snake is reduced to one snake-head.History
Luke Cahill was the founder of this branch. Many people have blamed him for starting the fatal fire that killed Gideon Cahill, as he had felt, as the oldest, he had not been given a fair share of clues. Evidence of starting the fire was in his diary and given to Jane, his favorite sister, but there is not enough proof to confirm it was him who started the fire. It was, in fact, Damien Vesper who started the fire.
In The Maze of Bones, Lucian Natalie Kabra mentioned to Alistair Oh that there was a fight between the Ekaterina and the Lucians. She said, "It didn't go very well for your branch (Ekaterina), now did it?" This refers to the Tunguska explosion of 1908.
CREST
The Tomas crest (shown to the left) is a shield emblazoned with either a light blue, dark blue, or a gradience of light and dark blue field, capped with a white polar bear on it's hind legs while scratching and baring it's teeth and tongue. As with all of the Cahill family crests, the Tomas crest has a greyish-silver scroll at the bottom that reads "TOMAS". The simpler Tomas crest (shown to the right) is the same shape and color, minus the scroll, but has the polar bear's head.History
The Tomas branch was founded by a man named Thomas Cahill, the second son of Gideon Cahill. While growing up, he and his sister Katherine countless hours together, dreaming of all the adventures they'd have when they grew up. Thomas and Katherine were friends during their childhood and part of their adulthood.
When Gideon's lab was set on fire, Thomas and Katherine believed it was Luke's doing, and they set out together, not on an adventure, but to desperately find and hide the 39 Clues from Luke. Together, Thomas and Katherine left Ireland and headed to Portugal, but tragedy struck. Thomas fell in love with a Portugese woman,Louisa, and Katherine was furious at what she called "love over duty". In the middle of the night, Katherine left Thomas while he was asleep with his wife and stole one of his Clues, leaving him. Thomas awoke and was totally devestated, both at himself, at Katherine's leaving, and Katherine's betrayment and the stealing of one of his Clues.
Thomas was enraged, and left his beloved Portugese wife and headed to Japan, where he set up the first-ever Tomas stronghold, married a Japanese woman Keiko, had children (Only child known by name is Toyotomi Hideyoshi) trained them to be warriors, and lived in Japan until the end of his life. To this day, the Tomas and Ekaterina were rivals in the race for the 39 Clues and as branches particularly.
The Janus crest (pictured to the below-left and right) is a green shield with a white wolf standing as if it was guarding something important with outstretched claws and a head, turned the opposite way, with its tongue flailing out like with the other branches. Below the crest, as with all Cahill family crests, is a greyish-silver scroll that reads "JANUS". The Janus' simpler crest (pictured right), is the same shield shape, just without the scroll, and only the head of the wolf is visable.
HISTORY
Jane Cahill was the second-youngest Cahill (presumed first-youngest until people found out about Madeleine). She was closest to Luke because he cared for her and loved listening to her music and poetry. She was only ten years old when she saw Luke trying to convince his father to give him remaining clues in Gideon Cahill's lab just before the fire. Afterwards, she ran away to England with a broken heart, disguised herself as a man named John and became very famous. The only thing that alleviated her pain was her art. She passed this down her lineage through the serum, creating a line of people who cared more about art than anything else. This was demonstrated in One False Note where all the Janus were worrying more about rescuing the art in the stronghold than Dan and Amy escaping from the stronghold.
The Ekaterina Branch is one of the five branches of theCahill family. They are more commonly known, and called, the Ekats for short. The Ekaterina was named after, and founded, by Katherine Cahill, the second child of Gideonand Olivia Cahill. The Ekaterina crest is a shield in the shape of a square with jutted, or gradually-pointed tips at the top and bottom of the shield. The Ekat crest, and official color, is yellow or a gradiance of yellow and orange. In the center of the crest is a white dragon; two legs, two wings, a curled and barbed tail, and a head facing left with it's mouth open, exposing a breathe of fire. The dragon is shown to be in flight. The much simpler crest is the same, except only the head of the dragon is shown. As with all of the other Cahill family crests, there is a scroll at the bottom that reads: "EKATERINA".
HISTORY
The Ekaterina Branch was founded by Katherine Cahill. The branch's main enemy is the Tomas Branch because Katherine stole one from her brother Thomas, founder of the Tomas branch. Because of this, Thomas swore to take revenge on her. With the compass in her hands now, Katherine moved to an unknown, far-off land, presumably Egypt, as she was a fascinated with Egyptology being an Egyptologist herself.
The Madrigal Branch is the last and formerly secret branch of The Cahill Family.Madrigals are generally known as stealthy and secretive. They can be very shy (like Amy and Fiske Cahill) or ecentric and troublemaking (like Grace and Dan) .
CREST
The Madrigal crest is different from the other Cahill family branches' crests;
not just by looks, but by meaning. The Madrigal crest is a totally black shield emblazened with a calligraphic "C", making it the only crest without an animal. The "C" stands for "Cahill". The Madrigals also use the calligraphic "M", for "Madrigal", but there is no known Madrigal crest that uses the "M" EXCEPT in The Black Book of Buried Secrets where is is used in the corners of the pages and at the start of the Madrigal section. Nowhere else is the Madrigal Crest used with an "M" instead of a "C". As with all of the other Cahill family crests, there is a grayish-silver scroll with the word "CAHILL". Never is "MADRIGAL" used in the scroll, probably because of the way the Madrigals want to stay secret. The smaller, simpler Madrigal crest is everywhere but the scroll. The letter "C" is almost always used, but, as stated above, the letter "M" is used in the miniature crest in The Black Book of Buried Secrets as well. The "M" is used to scare other Cahills away. Notice: The Madrigals use the same crest that belongs to the entire Cahill family.
History
The Madrigals were founded by Olivia Cahill's fifth child Madeleine Cahill. After Gideon died in the fire, Olivia Cahill gave birth to Madeleine. Madeleine was raised by her mother to reunite the Cahills. Madeleine swore on Olivia's deathbed that she would reunite the family. In honor of Olivia, many Madrigals take up their mother's surname, like Dan and Amy Cahill.
The ultimate goal of the Madrigal branch is to protect the 39 clues at all costs and reunite the Cahill Family, as Madeleine had hoped for. They try to avoid using violence and killing, but as all Cahills, will when necessary.Constantine of Russia (a Lucian) was the Cahill who came closest in history to gathering all thirty-nine clues. But just as he was about to unlock the great Cahill secret that all the Clues reveal, the Madrigals, led by Vladmir Lenin, killed the Last Royal Family of Russia.Another task for the Madrigals is to, under all costs, protect Gideon's gold ring from the Vespers. The leader of the Madrigals, Grace Cahill, recently died, at the beginning of the first book in the 39 Clues series. The current leader of the Madrigals may be Fiske Cahill (Man in Black), Grace's younger brother. The Agent Handbook reveals that "William McIntyre is not just a lawyer", which some believe is evidence that he is now head of the branch.
The Cahill Family, with the exception of the Vespers, is the most powerful family in human history. Founded by Gideon Cahill and his wife, Olivia Cahill, around the 16th century (the 1500s), it was split up in a fire that destroyed Gideon Cahill's laboratory and created the five branches - Lucian,Ekaterina, Tomas, Janus, and Madrigal. The family branches have been against each other ever since, constantly competing to find The 39 Clues first.
History
It is virtually impossible to find one significant figure in history born after the 1500s that's not a Cahill. As said above, the Cahill Family is split into five separate branches, the Ekaterinas, Tomas, Janus, Lucians and the Madrigals. Each branch has its own distinct qualities that separate the different branches. Some branches have a grudge against each other such as the Ekats and the Tomas. All of the branch's founders were one of the original Cahills; Luke Cahill founded the Lucian Branch, Katherine Cahill the Ekaterina Branch, Thomas Cahill the Tomas Branch, Jane Cahill the Janus Branch, and Madeleine Cahill the Madrigal Branch. The reason you cannot find a significant figure that wasn't a Cahill after the 1500s is because back when only the original Cahills- Gideon, Olivia, Luke,Katherine, Thomas, and Jane- were alive, Gideon created a serum that cured the Black Plague. He drank the serum which made him stronger, younger, and more physical overall. His children wanted the serum (the whole thing), but he gave parts of the serum to each of his children, which made them try to kill each other for the whole thing. Katherine was interested in science and inventions, Jane into art and music, Thomas' had a lot of physical prowess and determination, and Luke was great at tactics and sneakiness. When the siblings got married and had children, their skills was passed down to their offspring. So Jane's children had an interest in the arts and musics, and excelled in them as well. These were passed down generation after generation. The hatred of each other, their parents interests/powers, and the longing for the completed serum never stopped.
Madeleine Cahill was never given part of the Serum, as she was born after her siblings parted their ways in hatred and Gideon died in the fire.
